Charleston native turns to roots, keen reality, for first novel

Thornton, 55, and her groom, John, moved to Palm Lakeshore six years ago from Bedminster, N.J. They have four children: John Randolph, 23; Alexandra, 22; Elliott, 17, and Elisha, 11.
